It is very valuable because only one bill can be taken from one marlin. Please get it as a souvenir of your stay in Okinawa.
The marlin bill is a long, pointed, sword-like structure found on the upper jaw of marlins and swordfish. It is used as a weapon for huntingand defense. The bill is sharp and strong, allowing the fish to slash and stun their prey. The marlin bill is a distinctive feature of these fish and is often a subject of fascination for researchers and anglers alike.
Among the marlins, the blue marlin and the black marlin are ideal for marlinspike making as they have thick and dense bills. They can also be used as marlinspike for rope weaving.
Here is an introduction to how this is made.
After catching a marlin, the bill is cut off and exposed to seawater to remove the flesh. Then, it is soaked in oil for about six months. Once the smell is gone, the rough surface is shaved off and polished with sandpaper to achieve a beautiful, ivory-like transparency. Tying the base part with nylon cord helps maintain its strength.
In creating this product, we have incorporated the unique aesthetic sense of Japanese swords. Unlike swords from other countries, Japanese swords do not have decorative handles or scabbards, and they are not adorned with gems or gold. The beauty of a Japanese sword lies in the beauty of its blade. We have also emphasized the beauty of the blade in this.
