Want a Sunday to yourself while your kid has the best day of the month? On October 4, Churakids runs a kids-only bus trip to Motobu — we take them at 8:15 AM and hand them back around 5:15 PM with a dyed cloth they made themselves and a lot to tell you.
What they do:
• Ryukyu indigo dyeing at Aikaze, a little studio in the hills of Izumi. The dye is made from indigo plants grown right there. Each child ties and dyes a palm-sized shibori cloth — how they tie it decides the pattern, and it goes home with them.
• Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in the afternoon. Whale sharks and manta rays in the giant Kuroshio tank, explored in small groups with our staff. Admission included.
• Lunch at Ocean Expo Park with the rest of the bus — most of the kids are local Okinawan kids the same age, so by the afternoon they've usually made a friend or two.
Our staff speak English, so no Japanese is needed.
The practical stuff:
• Sunday, Oct 4. Meet 8:15 AM at Churakids, 2-14-2 Kaihou, Okinawa City. Back around 5:15 PM.
• $75 per child (SOFA) / $85 (Non-SOFA). Bus, workshop and admission included. 2nd child 10% off, 3rd and beyond 20% off. Pay online by card.
• Bring a packed lunch, water bottle, hat, comfy shoes — and clothes that can get stained. Indigo doesn't wash out.
• Rain or shine (both activities are indoors).
• Cancellation: full refund up to 3 days before / 50% from 2 days before / no refund on the day.
